At CFO-SCRDIC, November was a month full of gratitude, growth, and community. As the weather turned colder, our center became a warm and welcoming space for participants to come together, set goals, and celebrate their progress.
Thanksgiving Dinner: A Celebration of Togetherness
This year’s Thanksgiving Dinner was a heartfelt event, generously sponsored by The Hands of Christ Ministry and Game Seven Riders. On Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM, our doors opened to everyone, creating a space where participants, staff, and community members could celebrate as one big family.
For many, the holidays can be a difficult time, especially for those facing homelessness or mental health challenges. This dinner was about more than just a meal—it was about connection, hope, and creating a sense of belonging. Everyone left feeling like part of a larger extended family.
Participants Making Strides
November was not only about coming together, but also about moving forward. Our participants have been taking bold steps in their recovery, housing, education, and employment journeys. By setting SMART goals and leaning on the support of our programs, many are achieving incredible milestones.
Here are a few stories that inspired us this month:
- Participant #1 shared: “I’m here, got a bed at Bailey’s Shelter.”
- Participant #2, who had been homeless for over five months, obtained housing, gained employment within one month, and is now working two jobs. They shared their goal of cleaning up their credit to work toward becoming a first-time homeowner and entrepreneur. They reminded us all, “One day at a time is all I need.”
- Participant #3 gave a simple but powerful reminder: “Thankful for just being alive.”
- Participant #4 reflected: “I am thankful for today.”
- Participant #5 shared their gratitude for “My family and my friends.”
A Growing Pillar in the Community
Our center continues to grow as a trusted resource in Alexandria and Fairfax County. From housing referrals to employment opportunities, addiction support, and detox referrals, CFO-SCRDIC is here to provide a safe space where individuals can rebuild their lives. We are proud to be a beacon of hope along Richmond Highway.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the successes of November, we are filled with gratitude for our participants, staff, donors, and community. Together, we are building something remarkable: a space where everyone is welcome, everyone is supported, and everyone has the chance to thrive.
To all who joined us for Thanksgiving or supported us in other ways, thank you for being part of our journey. At CFO-SCRDIC, we truly are one big family, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
